This viral One Ingredient Chocolate Mousse šŸ« recipe is viral for a reason! I don’t know who came up with the brilliant idea of blending chocolate chips with water and refrigerating the mixture overnight to make mousse, but whoever it was, I wish them nothing but green lights and smooth traffic for the rest of their lives šŸ«”.

Seriously though, it doesn’t get any simpler than this! If you love creamy and light desserts like me but aren’t much of a baker, this is going to be your holy grail. Just 5 minutes of prep time, and you’ll have the most decadent, silky-smooth chocolate mousse that’s low in calories but still satisfies your sweet tooth šŸ¦·.

Why You’ll Love One Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

The chocolate chips give the mousse a deep, rich chocolate flavor šŸ« while the blending process and overnight refrigeration result in a velvety smooth texture that’s both light and airy, yet firm but soft. Despite not being made with traditional mousse ingredients like eggs and cream, this melt-in-your-mouth šŸ¤¤ chocolate mousse will taste and feel like you’ve spent hours in the kitchen preparing it.

The best part is, it’s only made with two simple ingredients, so it’s naturally gluten and dairy-free šŸ™Œ.

How to Prepare One Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

šŸ’¦ Blend 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in a blender with 2/3 cup of water for 2 minutes.

šŸ„£ Then pour the mixture into ramekins.

šŸ§Š Refrigerate One Ingredient Chocolate Mousse overnight or until set.

Nonna’s Tip šŸ«

Be sure that you blend the chocolate chips and water mixture thoroughly until smooth. This step is important to achieve a silky and creamy texture in the mousse.

Best Served With

  • A generous dollop of whipped cream
  • Fresh berries such as šŸ“ strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries
  • A scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream for a classic dessert pairing
  • A garnish of šŸŒæ mint

Common Questions

How do I ensure the chocolate pudding sets properly?

Make sure to refrigerate the mousse for the recommended time, preferably overnight, to allow it to set completely. If your mousse isn’t set after one night, it may need more time in the refrigerator.

Can I use milk instead of water for a creamier texture?

Yes, you can try using milk (dairy or non-dairy) instead of water for a creamier mousse. Remember, if you are changing or adding ingredients, you may have to experiment and adjust the quantities. If you don’t mind dairy, feel free to also try my Healthy Chocolate Mousse recipe!

How long can I store One Ingredient chocolate Mousse in the refrigerator?

The pudding can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, but make sure to cover the ramekins with plastic wrap or lids to prevent it from absorbing other odors.

What if I want a sweeter chocolate Mousse?

You can certainly try adding a sweetener like honey or stevia to the mousse (I have not tried) when you blend it or use semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Water ratio in this is too high and it just stays like a soup even after 2 days chilling in the fridge.

    1. Sorry you had trouble with this one! It usually comes down to the brand of chocolate and the power of your blender.

This recipe neither has one ingredient nor is mousse. Surprise surprise, this recipe comes out watery and broken. In the time you spent blending this, you could have just made mousse correctly. It’s really easy! Google bobby Flay’s basic recipe and you will be very glad you did

    1. Sorry you feel that way Jake. I think this is one ingredient! Water isn’t really an ingredient; the same way you wouldn’t see water listed in a pasta recipe. Please be sure to follow all my tips and check out my video to achieve an emulsified mousse texture.

Does not work. Used a Vitamix and let blend for over two minutes. Tried after 8 hours and had not gelled. 24 hours later and still mostly liquid. I even used whole milk to give some extra structure and body. So very disappointing.

    1. Hi there! Sorry this didn’t work for you. The recipe is for water as the second ingredient, so perhaps it was the milk that changed the outcome.

This recipe did not work at all. I followed it to a T, and it was one of the worst cooking failures I’ve ever experienced. I blended for 3 minutes straight to make sure it was fully blended. I refrigerated it for 12 hours and it was still liquid. I froze it for a couple of hours to see if that would help, but it just became cold and frosty, and melted again when I put it back in the fridge. The taste wasn’t even good due to the lack of sugar or any other ingredients. Just a big scam from start to finish. Don’t waste your time or your chocolate chips.

This was absolutely delicious and very simple to make. The only issue I had was my mousse didn’t set even though it was in the fridge overnight. It was still watery. What did I do wrong or what should I change?

    1. Hi Natasha, it might be that the chocolate was not adequately blended with the water. It has to achieve emulsification. I’m so glad it was still delicious!

I was amazed when I made this recipe! It was much better than I expected. Very chocolatey. I used half cold coffee and half water. Blended it for longer than 2 minutes to be sure it was enough. It turned out very silky. Will definitely make it again. It was a nice treat for Mother’s Day

Tried this. Itā€™s weird. Itā€™s good. I found that I kind of tasted the water and as I continued on there was water at the bottom. Not sure why that happened.

    1. Hi Jasmine, maybe try blending it a little bit longer next time, so the chocolate and water fully incorporate. Hope it’s less weird, more good next time! šŸ™‚
