Easy Bulgarian Recipes

If youโ€™ve read my bio or watched my stories, you already knowโ€”Iโ€™m a loud and proud Bulgarian immigrant ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ, and I love giving Bulgarian Recipes the hype they deserve. Yes, I live in Canada now ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆโ€”which, honestly, is the perfect place to be loud and proud about your culture because itโ€™s so multicultural โ€”but I was born in Bulgaria, to two very Bulgarian Bulgarians ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ‘จ, and spent most of my childhood there running wild and eating Banitsa.

A woman in black clothing sits at a desk, holding the flag of Bulgaria. Behind her is a bookshelf filled with books. The room has a welcoming and organized atmosphere.

Why Say It Simple When You Can Say It the Bulgarian Way?

But, seriously, I love my people ๐Ÿ’•. You know how every culture has its own little proverbs and metaphors? Well, ours are absolute Slavic-style sassy poetry ๐Ÿคฃ.

We donโ€™t say โ€œSlow downโ€โ€ฆ
Instead, we say: โ€œPetko isnโ€™t born yet, but theyโ€™re already sewing him a hatโ€ ๐Ÿงข (ะžั‰ะต ะŸะตั‚ะบะพ ะฝะตั€ะพะดะตะฝ, ะฐ ัˆะฐะฟะบะฐั‚ะฐ ะผัƒ ัˆะธัั‚).

We donโ€™t say โ€œDonโ€™t mock othersโ€โ€ฆ
We say: โ€œThe skinny guy laughed at the one without teethโ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ (ะŸั€ะธัะผัะป ัะต ั…ัŠั€ะฑะตะป ะฝะฐ ั‰ัŠั€ะฑะตะป).

And instead of โ€œItโ€™s too lateโ€
We go with: โ€œYou put your hood on after the rainโ€ โ˜” (ะกะปะตะด ะดัŠะถะด โ€“ ะบะฐั‡ัƒะปะบะฐ).

Iconic, right? I could go on forever, but you get the ideaโ€”weโ€™re witty, weโ€™re charming, and our food slaps ๐Ÿ‘‹.

Bulgarian Recipes That Bring You Home

If you moved abroad in your early teens, you get it. Weโ€™ve spent most of our lives away from the motherland. However, we’ve spent just enough time back home to always keep a piece of it with us.

For me, the ultimate way to stay connected is through food. I grew up watching my mom and both my grandmas cook like actual queens in the kitchen. Theyโ€™re the reason I get to share authentic Bulgarian recipes with you todayโ€”just like the ones below ๐Ÿ‘‡!

My Top Easy Bulgarian Recipes

From soups to stuffed peppers to custardy desserts ๐Ÿฎโ€”this list is packed with my all-time fave easy Bulgarian recipes that have been lovingly passed down through generations (aka, straight from my Bapche ๐Ÿ‘ต). These dishes help me stay forever connected to my roots ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌโ€”and trust me, once you try them, youโ€™ll be hooked too!

Now, remember… Iโ€™m the MODERN Nonna ๐Ÿ’…. This means I’ve modernized some of these to keep things a bit healthier and less time-consuming. But donโ€™t worryโ€”each recipe still brings that authentic “back-home” taste like youโ€™re sitting at Bapcheโ€™s kitchen table discussing her life-long feud with Ivanka, the next-door neighbour ๐Ÿคฃ.
