This is hands-down the Best Banana Bread Recipe you’ll find online. It’s not the healthiest recipe on my website, but I definitely did try to include better-for-you alternatives. I’ve used a plant-based milk here and have significantly reduced the amount sugar. I personally feel anything more than half a cup is way too sweet for me and too much for a 🍌 banana bread loaf but feel free to adjust these ingredients according to your liking.

Why You’ll Love This Banana Bread Recipe

Everyone loves a slice of banana bread and this is the best 🍌 Banana Bread recipe you’ll come across. The ingredients are simple and straightforward and you’ll be able to use up three of those ripe bananas sitting on your counter right now! I have included a couple of healthier ingredient swaps, such as 🥑 avocado oil and plant-based milk, but you can use what you like. This loaf comes together in a snap: one bowl and no mixer required. It’s soft and fluffy and just lightly sweet, perfect with a cup of coffee.

How to Prepare This Banana Bread Recipe

🍌 Add your bananas to a bowl and then mash them.

🥚 Now, add the eggs, vanilla, almond milk and avocado oil to the bowl along with the sugar and then whisk them together.

🥣 Next, add the flour and the baking soda to the bowl and stir.

🍫 Feel free to toss in walnut pieces or chocolate chips at this point as well.

🔥 Pour the batter out into a parchment paper-lined loaf pan and then bake in a preheated 350F (177C) degree oven for 1 hour or until golden. Enjoy!

Nonna’s Tip 🍫

Add in any extra ingredients you love to the batter: chocolate chips, chopped nuts, seeds or dried fruit.

Common Questions

can I use any type of milk for this banana bread recipe?

Yes, you certainly can use cow’s milk, soy milk, oat milk, or any other milk substitute.

How do I know when the banana bread is done?

The banana bread is done when it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few crumbs attached.

Can I make this recipe into muffins?

Yes! I would cook at the same temperature, but check to see if they’re cooked around the 20 or 25-minute mark.

Can I make this recipe gluten-free?

Yes, you can substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Ensure it’s a 1:1 replacement to maintain the proper texture.

Why are the metric weights of your ingredients different than the results of Google and my kitchen scale?

While 1 cup of flour weighs 160g in my kitchen, it might weigh anywhere from 120 to 180g in your kitchen and there’s a few reasons for that. The weight of ingredients may vary due to the brand of ingredients, the brand and style (wet vs dry) of measuring cups and spoons, and the technique for measuring into cups: scooping and leveling versus spooning the ingredients into the cup measure. For best results, go by the weight listed in the recipe.

I used this recipe and cut it in half as I only had 1 banana and made these cute mini muffins for my kids lunch’s for school. Half the recipe made approx. 21 mini muffins. They are the perfect texture, super yummy and very easy to make.

Three small muffins, inspired by the Best Banana Bread Recipe, are arranged on a white plate with a patterned rim, set on a speckled gray countertop.

  2. Isnt the floor for 2x and 3x way too much of an increase? I have always tried your 1x recipe and its great but this looks wrong, guess I’ll find out in an hour

    1. Thanks so much for your note Rachel. There was a formatting error causing the double recipe quantity to be wrong. I corrected it now. Good eye!

    1. Hi Jaya,
I prefer the lightness of avocado oil so I don’t usually make it with butter.

Made as Muffins for the kids and they LOVED them and so did I!! 25 mins at the same temp and they were perfect. No need for any fancy ingredients, had everything at home! I used to just search recipes and pick anything but now I use The Modern Nonnas website as my search bar! Will make again, and will try some walnuts next time for crunch! Thanks Snej!

Back again to make a double batch this time. Plan to freeze them and use for school lunch snacks! (Nut free version of course)

Great recipe. Easy to make. Delicious!
Just an FYI. The recipe instructions do not state when to add the sugar.

      1. Thanks for letting me know, Susan! I just updated the recipe — sugar goes in with the other wet ingredients.

  4. Hi Sneji
If I wanted to make these into muffins what temperature and cook time do you suggest I use ?
    Thank you xoxo

    1. Hi Rose, I would bake at the same temperature and start checking the muffins for doneness starting at 25 minutes, and then every 5 minutes thereafter, until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean.

    1. Hi Anna,
It should be okay for sure. It’s really hard to say as it’s to taste and personal preference

  5. My husband says this is the best banana bread he has ever had. It is moist and extremely flavourful. I added pecans instead of walnuts and put the sliced banana on top. Sooo delicious. Thanks again Sneji for making me look so good ❤️.

    1. Loveeee pecans Susan! Amazing work, I am always so proud of you and thank YOU for trusting me and trusting yourself as well with the recipes.
